Two Reading Plans for the Gospel of John

“Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name” (John 20:30–31)

I love John’s Gospel.

We recently started a 9-week series on John at College Park Church. Our weekly pace is slow – by design. We’ll only cover the first eighteen verses.

We’ll pick up the pace next year. But for now, it’s wonderful to marinate in the individual words and phrases of John 1:1-18.

Making John Personal

However, while I’m moving slowly through the Prologue, I’m doing two things in my personal devotions:

1. Committing the first eighteen verses to memory

2. Reading larger portions of John’s gospel to get a sense of the whole

This combination of a slow study on Sunday, personal memorization, and a broader reading of the rest of the gospel has been rich.

Every day I’m seeing the words and actions of Jesus in a different light. And I’m finding myself saying, “Man, I love Jesus!” more and more.

If you’d care to join me in the reading plan, I’ve included two options:

15 Day Plan:

Assumes reading Monday – Friday and completed before College Park’s REACH conference (our missions focus).

53 Day Plan:

Assumes reading Monday – Friday and completed before Advent.

It looks like we’ll be studying John into early 2020. It’s going to be a great journey.

I’m praying the Lord uses this gospel to increase our love for Jesus and that many people will believe.
